After years of being a commercial artist, the freedom of self-expression is something I find difficult to put in to simple words.  Creating my art dolls is like being released from a creative prison, and I truly feel elated with each new piece, free and joyous.

With all the concerns of everyday life; bills, family, health, world issues, I find adding a little flavor with the humor of my art a great escape.  If my work can bring a smile, giggle or even the hint of a grin to an otherwise mundane day, I feel I’ve done my job.

With my clay these whimsical characters blossom from within, often times with very little conscious planning.  By keeping my heart and mind light, my figures merrily develop as if their shapes were preexisting, their personalities already developed.  The journey of creation can be both hypnotic and equally surprising to me, and my hands that model the clay.

I can’t imagine any other medium that makes me as happy as sculpture, it seem to be not only what I do, but who I am.
